Olneyville Physical Health Campaign

Objective:

The objective of this project was to work with an off campus public health graduate student in developing a public health campaign to benefit the people of Olneyville, Providence, RI. I worked with Steven Eiland to develop a campaign that aimed to increase the physical activity of young parents in Olneyville, specifically the white and hispanic demographic.

Research

This first step of this project was to brainstorm with the client on what issues and obstacles one might face when considering exercising in the area. We gave ourselves the task of creating a campaign that took into account the crime rates in the area, lack of public transport, as well as the lack of available workout programs for the target age group.

Solution

The solution proposed by Steven was to create publicly available fitness classes within the parks of Olneyville. The idea was to create a sense of community to comfort people and to keep things local in order to appease those who do not have transportation.

Branding

I created a brand for the campaign that could easily be recognizable across platforms so that we could better connect with the target demographic through social media platforms, developing a name and logo that would reflect the heart of the campaign, calling it Olneyville Activo utilizing a spanglish approach and creating a logo that had a family friendly feel to it.

Web Presence

Steven suggested the development of a website that contained an easy to follow workout regime with nutritional guidelines as well as a forum for people to interact.

Social Media

Then taking the developed branding to create branded social media accounts for both Instagram and Facebook.

Graphics and Poster

Then creating graphics that would be shared via the social channels to kickstart the campaign, I designed two miniature infographics as well as one posted that was meant to be printed and displayed across the area that would advertise the classes that would be taking place.
