How To Video Intro Animation

Objective:

The objective of this project was to create an introduction animation and credit sequence using Adobe After Effects. The introduction is for a how to video on cooking a steak dinner.

Planning:

The first step to creating this animation is to plan out everything that is going to take place. This means that a storyboard is developed. The storyboard shows each main point of the scene within panels accompanied by any additional audio notes and explanations necessary. Below is the storyboard developed for this project.

Assets:

After planning the project, the assets needed to be built. For this project in particular, all of the assets were built within a single Adobe After Illustrator file to ease file management. The style for the animation had heavy influence on the creation of the assets, considering the flat, cartoonish look meant for the scene. Below you can see the assets as they were in the Illustrator file, as well as a mockup of the storyboard done using the assets in order to better prepare for the expectations of the scene.

Animation:

The next step was to bring our assets into Adobe After Effects and begin the animation process. For this project, each panel that is seen in the storyboard was treated as its own scene, built in its own comp. Once each comp was built, they were brought into another comp and lined up to play chronologically. Below are screenshots of the animation process in After Effects.
